Historic Freight Trail Adventure
Experience a captivating blend of local prospecting era history and the rugged beauty of the Canadian Shield on a 4-hour snowshoe adventure with local historian Les Oystryk from Beaver City Tours. Our journey begins at T&D Amisk Camp, where we will snowshoe to the site of Beaver City, Saskatchewan's first and only gold rush community. As we traverse what was once the bustling main street of Beaver City, we will then follow the path of a 110-year-old horse and sleigh trail along the Sturgeon Weir River. This river once served as a vital highway for Indigenous people, fur traders, and adventurous travelers; while the 1914 freight trail served the gold rush prospectors, commercial fishermen and winter travelers. Upon reaching the south bank of the river, we will discuss the fascinating history behind Highway 35, an iconic route that once connected Flin Flon to Nipawin. To wrap up our adventure, we will relax and enjoy hot chocolate and sizzling smokies roasted over a crackling campfire, before we snowshoe back to T&D Amisk Camp. Pre-Registration is required.
